Introduction to Bluehost hosting

Bluehost, a popular name in hosting services, has a long history.

It was founded in 2003 in Orem, Utah, United States.

It was acquired by Endurance International Group (EIG) in 2010. EIG is now rebranded as Newfold Digital.

Besides Bluehost, Newfold Digital has acquired a bunch of other popular brands in the internet marketing industry such as Hostgator,, Resellerclub, etc.

Newfold Digital recently acquired Yoast too, a leading SEO WordPress plugin, in August 2021.

So, do you really need Bluehost?

There are actually many factors to be considered before you choose a hosting company.

The most important factors are that they should have fast servers and good customer support.

Can you count on someone’s experience to decide on that?

Not really.

Actually, you have to experience that yourself and then take the decision (more on that later).

But as I have tried several hosting companies like Bluehost, Hostgator, GoDaddy, BigRock, and Siteground myself, I think I am in a good position to help you make that decision.

So, let’s get started.

What is Bluehost?

Bluehost, now part of Newfold Digital, is based in Jacksonville, Florida, United States.

They have a wide range of products and services related to building and maintaining websites.

Let’s take a look at them.

  • Website Migration Service.
  • Blue SKy – an on-demand website support services for WordPress and SEO.

But Bluehost is best known as a hosting service provider.

Bluehost provides different hosting services such as Shared Hosting (also called WordPress Hosting), Managed WordPress Hosting, VPS Hosting, Dedicated Hosting, WooCommerce Hosting, and Email Hosting.

As we can see, they have a very wide range of services for different hosting needs.

I am not familiar with any of their other services except hosting because I was only on their Shared Hosting plan.

So, I cannot comment on their domain registration, website migration, website designing, SEO, and ad services.

So here are the advantages and disadvantages of Bluehost hosting according to me.

Bluehost Pros & Cons

I used their shared hosting plan when I had just started blogging.

I chose mainly because of they were cheap and had been in business for a long time.

I never really faced any issues with them.

So if you ask me “is Bluehost a good web host” or “is Bluehost good for blogging”, my answer will be “Yes”.

With the experience I had with them, here is what I think of them:

  • Easy setup.
  • Easy WordPress installation.
  • Good uptime.
  • Good Website Speed.
  • Good Customer Support.
  • Great Prices

  • Lots of plugins pre-installed, which I didn’t needed.

Bluehost alternatives

There are thousands of hosting companies out there. It is a very crowded space actually.

I can’t really compare Bluehost with all other hosting companies out there, because I have not tried every one of them.

I tried GoDaddy and Hostgator way back, so it wouldn’t be fair to compare Bluehost with them now.

But I am going to give you my Bluehost vs Siteground comparison here because I used both of them in the recent past.

So, here is my comparison of Bluehost’s Basic monthly plan and Siteground’s StartUp monthly plan for you.

Bluehost Siteground
Website 1 1
Storage Space 50 GB 10 GB
Website Builder
Free CDN
Free SSL
Free Domain
Managed WordPress
Microsoft 365
Verified on Google My Business
Google Ads Credit (US only
Marketplace for themes and Plugins
Price $4.95 $4.99

As you can see, although the prices of both the companies are almost the same, the biggest advantage of Bluehost is that they give away a domain for Free.

There are other advantages with Bluehost too, like Microsoft Office 365, Verified on Google My Business, Google Ads credit (only US customers), and a marketplace for free themes and plugins.

There is another big difference.

You can choose to have your site hosted for 36 months with Bluehost and pay only $2.95/month.

Siteground, on the other hand, costs $10.49/month for 36 months of hosting.

That’s a huge difference!

You would save $271.44 if you choose Bluehost for 36 months.

So, if I have to choose between Bluehost and Siteground, I would definitely go for Bluehost because –

  • Bluehost gives away a Free Domain.
  • Bluehost has more storage space.
  • Bluehost will save me a lot of money.

As far as fast servers and customer support are concerned, we will take a look at those in the next section under “Bluehost Ratings”.

However, if you are looking for an alternative, you can go for Hostinger.

Bluehost Ratings

To get an idea about the buzz around Bluehost, I checked Trustpilot and Trustradius for their ratings.

Here is a snapshot of the rating given by Trustpilot.

trustpilot rating on bluehost hosting
Fig.2 Trustpilot Rating on Bluehost

They have given Bluehost 3 stars out of 5 based on 1, 691 users.

Well, let’s see what Trustradius has to say about them.

trustradius rating on bluehost
Fig.3 Trustradius Rating on Bluehost

They have given 3.5 stars out of 5 or a score of 7.1 out of 10.

Well, I think that these scores show that people do not think Bluehost to be the best one out there, but we cannot completely ignore them too.

I mean, 7.1 out of 10 is a good score, right?

Now, we have to remember one thing.

And that is, many customers go to these review sites to just complain, so they can be heard.

And sometimes many competitors of the company give negative reviews too to stand out.

So, I never make my decision based on the ratings given by these review sites.

I have seen many companies getting around 3 and 4-star reviews, but has proved to be excellent.

As I wrote before, the thing that really counts is one’s own experience.

I have also seen that Bluehost hosting is recommended by WordPress folks themselves.

wordPress recommends bluehost
Fig. 4 WordPress recommends Bluehost

So, if they are recommended by the very WordPress guys, I would certainly check them out.

I actually did. And I found them to be quite good.

Especially, if you are just starting out or have 1 or 2 blogs or brand websites, then you can definitely go with Bluehost.

I have seen people complaining about their support in many forums, but I didn’t have any issues with their support myself. They respond quickly and are eager to help.

So, instead of going for a high-end hosting company with hundreds of features, which you do not need, it would be better to keep things simple and save thousands of dollars.

Bluehost servers have good speed, they have a laser focus on WordPress and their prices are very affordable.

You will also get a Free domain and more storage space too.

So my recommendation would be to sign up for Bluehost and save money.

You can use that money for other things in your business.

How much does Bluehost cost?

There are different pricing options as they have different hosting plans.

I am sharing only their Shared Hosting or WordPress Hosting pricing plan.

Shared Hosting and WordPress Hosting are basically the same plans, although they are listed separately.

One other thing to note is that they have the same price for their Plus and Choice Plus plans.

The only difference is that the Choice Plus plan has Free domain privacy and Free Automated backup in addition to everything in the Plus plan.

So I will skip the Plus plan and share with you only the Basic, Choice Plus, and the Pro plans here.

Which Bluehost hosting plan should I get?

When you are buying any of their hosting plans, you are also getting a domain for Free.

However, that domain does not come with domain privacy.

Domain privacy is absolutely necessary when getting domains. Otherwise, everybody will get to see your contact details on the internet, which is not good right?

However, Domain Privacy is available only on their Choice Plus and Pro plans.

So, my suggestion for you would be to:

  • Buy a domain from Namecheap, which costs about $6. You will get Domain privacy for Free when you buy the domain from Namecheap.
  • Then buy the Basic plan from Bluehost for 36 months. You will save $2/month if you do that.
  • li>Back up your site using a backup plugin.
  • Use Google Docs, Google Sheets, etc., instead of Microsoft Office 365.

Should you buy directly from the company?

Like I always say, never buy anything directly from the company without checking the offers from their affiliates.

You do not want to miss the bonuses, do you?

What do you get if you buy through me?

I am sure you know that I always give out useful bonuses when someone buys anything through my affiliate link.

Check out my bonuses below.

Bluehost is in the hosting business for a very long time.

I tried them and I was satisfied with everything.

I am writing this not just to get the commission, but because I also want to share my experience and help you.

But that does not mean, that Bluehost is the best hosting company in the world.

There are others but they are costly.

There are cheaper ones too, but they have poor servers and support.

So, if you are looking for a reliable and cheap hosting company, which will give you peace of mind, sign up for Bluehost hosting.
